The grain partitions more the more one elevates within the structure, leaving spaces that are more segmented and private. This leaves the ground plane more public and open as an axis within the urban fabric.
On one end, the mass timber column supports the canopy of glulam beams above, creating a cantilever. Smaller pieces of timber are suspended from the beams above and gradually amass into a dense network as they descend. This network eventually makes many touch points with the ground plane to support the other end of the canopy.
